AnaiRhoads.org - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is asking consumers to avoid taking or purchasing "DU" Brand Nasal Decongestant until the recall is lifted.

DU Brand Nasal Decongestant is distributed from Puerto Rico by a company called Drugs Unlimited. The FDA believes DU may be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia, a bacterium that is capable of promoting life-threatening infections in those with compromised immune systems, with especial concern for those suffering from cystic fibrosis.

The over-the-counter decongestant is sold in 15 milliliter (or "1/2 ounce") and 30 milliliter bottles with "DU 12-Hour Nasal Spray" on the label. The lot number to look out for is "J4492", which is found imprinted at the bottom of the carton as well as the back of the bottle label. The recalled product also bears an expiration date of 9/06.

The FDA asks those who may still have the recalled product to return it immediately to the store where it was purchased. Anyone who has used the recalled product must call their doctor. Those who require further information may contact Rey Farinas at (305)-592-9216.
